Bedroom Makeover

I wanted a new bedroom. But that wasn't in the budget.
Sooooo, using the age-old maxim of using what you have (and hence the whole theory behind Donna and her inspiration at Funky Junk) I did just that ~ kinda. I bought a gallon of paint. And some sand paper. But I still have a lot of the paint left, for other projects.

So, won't you please come take a peek at this little project I'm as so excited about!

Above and Below are pictures BEFORE I started

Next are a few pictures of the main focus of this makeover. To paint my baby dresser that has traveled with me over the last 20 something years.

It is a well-made piece of furniture, but was in desperate need of some TLC.

Forgive me for jumping along, I just get so dang excited!

Dresser ( now known as Evelyn) has been sanded and painted and distressed.
Now time for some finessing.

Using some of my plethora of old books, I lined the drawers with wonderful old pages.

"One night of love" Starring Grace Moore ~ PERFECT!

Ready to start her new life, Evelyn is back where she belongs.

I also put this wonderful old mirror above her. I am going to ask Hubby to help me hang it as it is SUPER heavy.

As with any room, it's the little things that help make a house a home.
I have had this light switch cover for ages. I don't even remember where it came from.
It is metal though, very unique. But ugly!

And now...WOW!!

Closeup of my curtains. Hence the inspiration for the whole room! To me, these lovelies look like old-fashioned Southern Ball gowns. And then that might just be my wild imagination!

Beautiful mercury glass tie backs

I still have a list of little things that I want/need to do.
But for now, I smile when I walk into our bedroom. And that is the BEST feeling in the world!

Thanks for joining me for this month's edition of "Gitter Done". A huge Thank You to Donna for inspiring me to get some of these things done. Now to start thinking about next month ~ LOL!

  1. Hi Kristal!!
What a darling, happy, cute, creative room!
Doesn't it feel good to check something off the to do list!!??
The silver tray to hold jewelry? Brilliant!
I have the same light/switch plate covers in my dining room.
    Mine are white ;)
Are those matelasse curtains? I love that idea--I have slipcovers on my wingbacks from matelasse, but never thought of making curtains from it!
    Thanks for the idea!
So nice to meet you from Funky Junk Donna's site!
Blessings to you as you make your home!
    Hugs,

  2. Oooo, first of all let me say you are one brave girl posting before pictures! Ha!

I love it! The curtains are gorgeous, thinking of someplace I could steal that idea. The switch plate is way cool. We have those flat toggle type switches. I would love to switch them out so I could use cool old plates but that's a job for my Mr. Wonderful, I'm afraid of electricity. Wish I wasn't but I am getting better, I will change light bulbs if I have to.

I've done some of the music sheet papering but I love the way you have mixed yours up, making it more eclectic looking. Sometimes I have a hard time loosening up.

Oh and the music sheet wreath, one of those are on that "to do project list", make that "never ending to do project list"!

    Beautiful,
    Susanne.

    Enjoy your new lovely bedroom!

  4. Your room is really coming along nicely. I like all the details. Your wreath is gorg with the addition of tissue flowers (?), your window treatments are serious swoon worthy.
